Bodyweight training - movement

One of the the great ironies of re-invigorating our fitness & health is we often find that we are not as strong as we thought. The good new is, we are always more than capable. What we struggle with today we can work towards tomorrow.

At Simple Strength we work on basic body weight moves to establish a solid base from which to build power and strength. Don't assume body weight drills will be easy. In truth, seemingly strong individuals often struggle to perform a one legged squat, five decent push ups or a single pull up. These are a basic measure of strength and control. Body weight teaches us to integrate the body as a single unit. We learn to engage the supporting muscles, create structure and develop foundation capable of generating and directing explosive power.

Body weight training can be playful and fun but it can also be extremely difficult and is great preparation for more challenging tasks. Much of what we do is rooted in martial arts and combat sport training, making it practical and effective.

As we develop, the improvements we make in mobility quickly translate to new found strength and power in body weight training. As our body weight training improves we will find positive changes in our flexbility. Each aspect of practice produces a tangible effect on the others.

Simple methods, like the 100 Reps programme provide an ideal point for kick starting your practice.
